What is the Regiment?
The Regiment is many things. First and foremost it is the Midshipmen who run the Regiment! These midshipmen come from all over the United States and abroad, including Turkey, Panama, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and India to name only a few. Their ages also vary, and although most are typical college age students, some midshipmen are older with life experience, implying you are neither too old nor too young to be in the Regiment.
Add to that a challenging and a disciplined lifestyle (yes, you wear a uniform and follow a demanding schedule) and you begin to get a feel for what it is. The Regiment is a lifestyle that embodies four important concepts inside and outside of the classroom:
- A four year leadership and management laboratory
- A structured training environment
- A time management program
- A personal development program
Keep in mind, the regimental lifestyle is a requirement for the Coast Guard licensing program, but is available to all Maine Maritime students regardless of their major. The Regiment is not the military and therefore has no obligatory service requirement upon graduation.
